Introduction

BookCompanion ("we," "our," or "the app") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our iOS application.

Information We Do NOT Collect

BookCompanion does not collect, store, or transmit any personal information. We do not:

• Collect your name, email, or contact information
• Track your location
• Access your photos, contacts, or other personal data
• Store your reading history on our servers
• Share any data with advertisers or third parties

Local Data Storage

All your data is stored locally on your device using iOS UserDefaults. This includes:

• Books you've added to your library
• Your reading progress (current chapter)
• Generated summaries and character guides
• App settings and preferences

We cannot access this data. It never leaves your device, and it is automatically deleted if you uninstall the app.

Third-Party Services

To provide our core features, we use the following third-party services:

OpenAI (for AI-generated summaries and characters)

• What we send: Book title, author name, chapter number, and language preference
• What we don't send: Your name, device ID, or any personal information
• Purpose: To generate spoiler-free summaries and character guides

Google Books API (for book search)

• What we send: Your search queries (book titles or author names)
• What we don't send: Your name, device ID, or any personal information
• Purpose: To help you find and add books to your library
• Privacy Policy: policies.google.com/privacy

No Analytics or Tracking

BookCompanion does not use analytics tools, tracking pixels, or any form of user behavior monitoring. We do not know:

• How many people use the app
• Which books you're reading
• How often you use specific features
• Any usage patterns or statistics

Children's Privacy

BookCompanion does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children under 13. Since we don't collect any data at all, the app is safe for users of all ages.

Data Security

Since all data is stored locally on your device:

• Your data is protected by your device's security (passcode, Face ID, Touch ID)
• We cannot access your data, even if we wanted to
• Your data is backed up through iCloud if you have iCloud Backup enabled (controlled by iOS, not us)

Your Rights

You have complete control over your data:

• View: All your data is visible within the app
• Delete: Swipe to delete books, or uninstall the app to remove all data
• Export: Currently not available (planned for future version)

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify you through the app or by updating the "Last updated" date above.

International Users

BookCompanion can be used anywhere in the world. Since we don't collect or store user data on our servers, there are no data transfer or jurisdiction concerns.
